Searching For Epoxy Flooring

by Brian on April 27, 2011 · 0 comments

in Chicago,Google,Misc

I make no secret of the fact that I’m a fiend for searching for things in Google.

Back during the darker periods of this epoxy flooring blog, I used to do any number of searches for epoxy flooring info, looking for anything I could use to write a blog post.

Anyway, even though things are going much better now – note all the pics on our Facebook Page – I still find myself having “epoxy this-or-that” pop into my head on occasion. Random phrases I feel compelled to see what will turn up in Google.

Now that their search engine has such smooth suggestion capability (as you see in the image above) this can become very fun.

For example, go to Google and do a search for “epoxy hu” and then stop. What in the world is an “epoxy huntsman”?! Anyone?

Lost in a Garage Storage System Abyss

epoxy flooring chicagoUPDATE: Ten minutes after this post went up I got new pics from Floorguard!

Remember when I couldn’t think of anything to write about for this chicago garage flooring company?

Well, I’m still here, banging my head on the desk, wondering what to do.

I’ve emailed endlessly, I’ve called, and I’ve requested in-person meetings.

One would think they were gently telling me not to worry about working for them anymore, but they still pay me, so I’m not sure what to do. I’m unable to perform in this way, i.e. with no communication or content from the company.

Now, many people would tell you that writing about this on their company blog is not the “right” thing to do.

I would counter with two points, and keep in mind I’ve both pointed out this blog (and the Twitter/Facebook) and told them continually “I am unable to do a good job under these conditions – if you no longer want me to try, I can/will walk without issue”:

1) What am I supposed to write about? I never recommend social media presences become generic search engine bait. They should have personalities, and/or show off the work of the company. With no input from Floorguard itself, I’m in a void – and again, I’ve asked repeatedly to go accompany the crew on jobs, but nobody will get back to me on that.

2) Part of my job is to draw traffic with compelling content. Frankly, this is interesting stuff. lol

I’ve considered quitting, but at the core, I really like everyone over there. If they would just send me some before/after pictures on a regular basis…!

Any thoughts?

(On another note – I’m trying to get this blog theme stripped off, but the company that does that won’t take care of it either. I’d do it myself, but something in the server allows no uploads. For example, I’m hosting all these pics on my personal Flickr account.

It’s like a cruel joke is being played on me by all involved with this epoxy flooring company from chicago!)

epoxy flooring chicagoThere’s going to be a switch-up in the look of the blog here soon, if I can get my way.

You may be thinking, “Why if you get your way? Don’t you just do whatever you want to on that blog anyway?”

The truth is, yes – I do. Unfortunately, I don’t have access to the server, and the theme that’s on here appears unremovable by normal means.

I chatted up CM to ask her about this.

me: hey what’s up

CM: nothinggggg
CM: you?

me: remember when I put that picture of popcorn on that one blog instead of writing about epoxy flooring lol

CM: yes lol
CM: you’re an idiot

me: this time it’s an empty water jug – I put some effects on it so it looks sad and abandoned

CM: ask for a raise

As you’ll note, I forgot to ask her about the theme change at all. I’m hopeful it happens soon – perhaps when more before-after pictures arrive. :(

Sorry About the Bears, Chicago

by Brian on January 24, 2011 · 0 comments

in Misc,News,Sports

new cavs logoAs you may or may not know from reading this blog or following Floorguard’s Twitter, I’m not actually from Chicago.

While I spend many a day here now, I’m actually a Cleveland native, which means while I certainly feel bad for people I know in the area, you people have not truly suffered in the ways and to the extent I have.

In fact, you shouldn’t be unhappy today at all. Here are a list of reasons to feel good:

1) The Bears were in the NFC Championship Game.
2) You’re not a fan of the Cleveland Browns by default.
3) Your recent White Sox championship.
4) You weren’t raised from birth to be a fan of the Cleveland Indians.
5) Your six Bulls championships, Michael Jordan, and that Derrick Rose makes the current Bulls scary-good.
6) Your upbringing didn’t entail a life-long devotion to the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Now, don’t you feel better?

I know this had nothing to do with epoxy flooring or garage storage systems, but really – how exciting is that to read about anyway?

They’ve still sent me no pictures of the company’s work btw, so I took this picture of a shirt I own that proves my loyalty.

chicago garage flooringToward the start of the month is the most relaxing time to not have anything to blog about with regard to epoxy garage flooring.

I figure if I’m going to get fired, it’ll be in a “let’s see if he can turn it around by the end of the month” sort of fashion.

Anyway, last week’s post that had nothing to do with organizing your garage was a big success, so I thought I’d continue the trend this week.

Here’s another chat with CM.

me: Hey.

CM: :(

me: oh the Philadelphia Eagles didn’t win the big game huh
me: sorry about your Philadelphia Eagles

CM: why are you saying the full name lol

me: I dunno I am trying to be formal
me: hey do you have any pictures of popcorn on your phone

CM: I think so why

me: can you send one to me

And…that’s how we got here.

I don’t know about you or the Floorguard people (since they won’t return my emails), but this blog is way more fun in 2011.

Buy some garage flooring!

Facebook Check-Ins and Your Garage

by Brian on December 27, 2010 · 0 comments

in Facebook,Misc

facebook-places-logoI’m trying to figure out how in the world to utilize the excitement of the Facebook Check-in features for Floorguard.

We’re not an actual retail location, nor are we a business you’re likely to be a repeat customer of on any short-term basis, unless you have multiple homes.

The only option I can think of is to just pick a random garage in Chicago and encourage people to go there for no reason, and then check-in.

This would serve no purpose at all, but is also the type of thing I would totally do myself, especially if it caused confusion for the homeowner.

Perhaps after 100s of people a day stop in at their garage, they start feeling extreme pressure about the appearance of said garage, and they become a paying customer.

I don’t want to say this is the best marketing plan ever, but it’s certainly not the worst. At the very least, it’ll make for interesting blog content and perhaps a restraining order.

Placing the Flakes in Epoxy Flooring

by Brian on November 28, 2010 · 0 comments

in Flooring,Misc

I made a joke last week about the viability of strategically placed flakes on epoxy flooring.

The Before/After shots from the above-linked post had what are known as “random flakes”, and I suggested there might be such a thing as “strategic flakes”.

Since the quality of my work here will likely mean I’m never actually allowed out on a job, I can only imagine what these would look like were I to get a crack at flake placement in a real garage.

I’m guessing reactions from both employer and client would be on the negative end here, but I spent a lot of time over the holiday in Photoshop working this concept art up, so please be kind.

The Dirtiest Garage Ever

by Brian on November 8, 2010 · 1 comment

in Flooring,Industrial,Misc,Twitter

Poking around Twitter, I came across the Flickr photo account for Construction Gone Wild!.

(The exclamation point is their addition, although I would’ve added it if they hadn’t already.)

It contained possibly the grossest garage I’ve ever seen – this is a wider shot:

H-P Lake Highland

If that doesn’t set the stage enough, this is the caption on that photo:

You can see how far the water has collected here. The entire garage floor is flooded, and the lake has begun supporting its own ecosystem.

Let’s assume this is the result of flooding and not just poor maintenance. I emailed the Floorguard bosses to see where they would start with this, assuming they would take it on.

In any case, this is probably cheap land, if you’re in the market for a fungus-infested open warehouse.

The Elvis Garage

October 26, 2010 Misc

I’ve done everything I can to beg the man in charge for more before/after pics of garages and companies in Chicago we’ve treated with the wonder that is epoxy, and I’m out of options. On my run this morning, I did see a garage that was a tribute to Elvis. I ran home to get [...]

A New Chapter in Epoxy Flooring Blogs

August 25, 2010 Field Reports

(I think this is the last pic in the series from that one job I went to go watch – I really went nuts with the photo filters/effects on this one. I don’t remember taking it, so doubtful I could repeat it. Enjoy.) You may get the sense reading this blog that I’m personally not [...]
