Epoxy Coating Garage Floors and Why You Should Leave It To Professionals
Chances are that if you are reading this article, you are considering garage floor resurfacing and you probably think it’s a good idea to try and do it yourself, but let me assure you, these things are definitely best left to the professionals.
First things first, let’s clear up a common misconception about epoxy coatings. When you get you garage floor refinishing job done, if you want hard, durable, long lasting floors that look great when they are done and will continue to look good for many years, a two part epoxy coat is the way to go. Do not have your floor painted. Epoxy is not the same thing as paint.
The paint that is commonly used in garage floor resurfacing is usually a latex acrylic. In order to make these paints last a bit longer, the manufacturer will put in a very small amount of epoxy with the paint and these are then falsely advertised as epoxy coatings. A true epoxy coating is when two chemicals (an epoxide resin and a polyamine hardener) are mixed to form a long lasting polymer. This is a far superior coating than that of epoxy paints.
Now I’m sure you’re wondering how garage floor coatings Philadelphia Pa professionals use epoxy coatings for garage floor refinishing jobs and why the epoxy is so much better than the alternatives. There are two big reasons. The first is that when a two part epoxy coating is installed properly (one of the big reasons you should leave it to the professionals) it only has to be done once. It will last your entire life and look good the entire time. The second reason is the durability. When you get an epoxy coated floor you don’t have to worry about chipping paint when you drop your tools, or staining it when you spill something while changing the oil in your car. It is truly the most reliable and durable type of floor you can get.
Now for those of you who have read through this article and still think you should do your own garage floor resurfacing, let me try to convince you one more time. The first reason of many that you should leave this to the pros is the quality. Without being a professional, you can’t get your hands on the industrial grade epoxy that will last forever. You’d be stuck with a store bought alternative that will start to pull away with hot tire pick up and not last as long.
The second reason is that the products for do it yourself garage floor refinishing jobs are often misleading. You may think you are getting a high quality contractor grade epoxy and it turns out to be normal latex paint. The third reason and most important is warranty. If you get it done by pros you can probably get a lifetime warranty and save you money in the long run.
If you want a high quality floor for your garage, have a garage floor coatings Philadelphia Pa professional install two part epoxy coated floor and you won’t regret it.

Really Pleased! Our garage needed some major help – not only was it a mess but the floor was just ugly with all the stains and such. I will agree with the reviewer below – do not go with the cheap imitators! Floorguard not only has a great product, but their installers and service is well worth any extra cost, which is minimal anyway. Our neighbors have commented on how good our garage looks and we’ve recommended them to Floorguard without hesitation.

Covering our old, gray garage floor was a great aesthetic and functional improvement. This project requires 2 days: first day preparing the surface (major job requiring right equipment), putting down first coating and sprinkling the flakes. This requires about 4 hours. After this dries, they come back next day and apply the topcoat. They notified us when they would start the work and arrived as promised. They worked diligently, completed the work efficiently, left the work areas and our driveway clean. The owner Steve is a great guy to deal with.

It was a pleasure dealing with the company’s owner Steve Chaloult. When we called him to give us an estimate, he arranged to come within a few days. We have a very large two car garage. His estimate was a bit more than the first company we called but he seemed very well prepared in showing us samples and very knowledgeable about his product and we just liked him. For personal reasons , we had to delay installation for about a month and he could not be more accommodating. we finally we able to have it done this past week and it was worth the wait. The garage floor is just beautiful and I never would have thought I would say that about a garage floor! We also had the lower walls around the floor done and very glad we did. At one time we were thinking we could do this ourselves using a kit. WHAT were we thinking? This is a job for a professional and we are so glad we used Steve.

The owner Steve Chaloult was easy to work with and he’s very good at what he does. I highly recommend Floorguard as your contractor if you’re wanting to have a garage floor finished with a durable epoxy like colored finish. Floorguard came when they said they would and cleaned up after they were finished. Floorguard also installs garage storage cabinets.
