Epoxy Concrete Resurfacing – From Showrooms and Factories to Your Garage
You can improve the looks of the garage floor or work space, recover it and repair it by using garage floor epoxy. This concrete resurfacing material is made of an advanced form of epoxy, polyepoxide or polymer and it is used for a variety of things such as paint, coatings and adhesives. Epoxy has always been used in wind energy plants, the flooring of show rooms, aerospace and art projects. Epoxy was chosen because of its high durability and its ability to withstand heavy-duty traffic, which is the case with all of the previously mentioned applications. This is why epoxy made its way into the garage floor resurfacing market and it became one of the most preferred methods to protect, cover and coat the garage floors.
Garage Floor Epoxy Covering
Epoxy flooring is one of the best, if not the absolute best way to protect the flooring of the garage. It can protect it from grime, dirt, oil and grease stains as well as UV damage. This way, you can rest assured that your concrete floor is protected at all times. There are many brands of epoxy and they come with different prices. Most of them are sold in a kit or a set with a DIY guide that will help you apply the epoxy yourself. While this might look like a good idea and a time saver, it is not recommended. It is always better to enlist a professional who will be able to get the job done for you. This is because the application of epoxy can be tricky and as a regular homeowner, you most likely do not know all what needs to be known about its application, so you will certainly do something wrong and that can affect the integrity and the durability of the epoxy, which defeats the entire purpose of using it.
Applying the Epoxy Yourself
If you insist to apply it yourself, here is some information that should help. The kit that is found in different department stores varies between 50 bucks and 150 bucks. It all depends on the area of the garage, if the garage is big, then you will need to go with the bigger kit and vice verse. These kits can be found at land based stores such as Home Depot, Sam’s Club, Costco and Lowes among others. There are also a long list of online retailers that will allow you to do the shopping for the garage floor epoxy kits online. This way, you can easily view the different choices while sitting in the comfort of your own home.
When it comes to the application, you can watch online videos and tutorials that are dedicated to people who are applying epoxy garage floor coverings for the first time. Make sure to follow these instructions step by step and to apply the epoxy thoroughly so you do not create uncovered spotting or any visual damages. You should also buy a shop brush or a broom to apply the epoxy or you can get the specific brushes that are made for epoxy application.

Really Pleased! Our garage needed some major help – not only was it a mess but the floor was just ugly with all the stains and such. I will agree with the reviewer below – do not go with the cheap imitators! Floorguard not only has a great product, but their installers and service is well worth any extra cost, which is minimal anyway. Our neighbors have commented on how good our garage looks and we’ve recommended them to Floorguard without hesitation.

Covering our old, gray garage floor was a great aesthetic and functional improvement. This project requires 2 days: first day preparing the surface (major job requiring right equipment), putting down first coating and sprinkling the flakes. This requires about 4 hours. After this dries, they come back next day and apply the topcoat. They notified us when they would start the work and arrived as promised. They worked diligently, completed the work efficiently, left the work areas and our driveway clean. The owner Steve is a great guy to deal with.

It was a pleasure dealing with the company’s owner Steve Chaloult. When we called him to give us an estimate, he arranged to come within a few days. We have a very large two car garage. His estimate was a bit more than the first company we called but he seemed very well prepared in showing us samples and very knowledgeable about his product and we just liked him. For personal reasons , we had to delay installation for about a month and he could not be more accommodating. we finally we able to have it done this past week and it was worth the wait. The garage floor is just beautiful and I never would have thought I would say that about a garage floor! We also had the lower walls around the floor done and very glad we did. At one time we were thinking we could do this ourselves using a kit. WHAT were we thinking? This is a job for a professional and we are so glad we used Steve.

The owner Steve Chaloult was easy to work with and he’s very good at what he does. I highly recommend Floorguard as your contractor if you’re wanting to have a garage floor finished with a durable epoxy like colored finish. Floorguard came when they said they would and cleaned up after they were finished. Floorguard also installs garage storage cabinets.
