Start 2020 with a Clutter-Free Garage, Part I

Dachshund Sitting Inside a Cardboard Box Labeled Keep
2020 is just around the corner, which means many of us are thinking of ways to start the year fresh. If you’ve already installed an epoxy floor coating in your garage, or have plans to do so, decluttering your garage should also be on your to-do list!  Here are a few tips for cleaning the garage clutter:

Recruit some help: Depending on the amount of clutter that has accumulated in your garage, you may need some help. Recruit a family member, friend, or even an organization expert to help you with the task.

Decide how you will sort your items: Create a box or pile for items to keep, items to donate, items to sell, and items to throw away. Be sure to check your throw away section for recyclables!

Be realistic about what you keep: It can be hard to get rid of things sometimes. If you haven’t used an item in the past year, it’s likely you won’t need it again. Try to be mindful about not keeping things because you think you may use them in the future.

Clean it up: Once you’ve sorted all of the items in your garage into your four sections, you’ll want to clean the space before returning the items you’re keeping to their new locations. Clean your floors, walls, shelves, and any appliances in your garage so that you’re starting the space off clean.

These are just a few steps for decluttering your garage either prior to installing an epoxy floor coating or after doing so. Check back for part II for tips on how to organize the items you’re keeping.
